Truckee Passive House
On the boards is a new passive house located in Truckee, CA. The design employs various tactics to meet a high standard of energy efficiency. Prefabricated wall, roof, and floor systems will be delivered on site and erected on top of a site-built foundation. An airtight envelope provides continuous insulation, and triple pane windows create ample daylight while cutting down on heat loss. An all electric mechanical system supplemented by photovoltaic panels allows a sustainable regulation of interior temperature.
What is a Passive House?
A Passive House refers to a set of design and construction principles that strive to attain a high level of energy efficiency.
These principles can be broken down into three categories:
Thermal Control
A continuous layer of insulation is provided in order to eliminate thermal bridging through the envelope.
Air Control
Energy efficiency is enhanced by an airtight barrier that eliminates infiltration and loss of conditioned air. This is paired with continuous balanced ventilation from an Energy Recovery Ventilator to maintain indoor air quality.
Radiation Control
In conjunction proper solar heat gain orientation, high performance windows and doors control temperature while providing daylight.
